Students Meet American Author Kwame Alexander
HAR students had the chance to meet American writer of poetry and children's fiction, Kwame Alexander, during an event as part of the Havering Literacy Festival recently.
Kwarme's verse novel The Crossover won the 2015 Newbery Medal recognising the year's "most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.” He has written 32 novels in total and his unique style of writing is a hit with children across the globe.
Thirty seven HAR students across from Years 7-9 attended the event, for which we were grateful to have received free tickets. Kwame had a musician with him, which really enhanced the poetic verse of his writing.
When the time came to ask questions, many students put up their hands Ben, Leland and Samuel Bakare asked some really insightful questions. Ben and Mrs Burt were invited up on stage at different times, to have the chance at winning one of Kwame's books but were sadly pipped at the post!
What students' said...
