Talk the Talk - Year 7 Transition Workshop
Talk About Transition engages students using oracy based activities and strategies to develop greater self-confidence and resilience to support a successful transition from primary to secondary school.
On Tuesday 24th September, our Year 7 students took part in transition workshops led by Talk the Talk. Through engaging oracy-based activities, students developed greater self-confidence and resilience to help them successfully transition from primary school to life at HAR.
During the workshops, students reflected on their recent transition, set personal goals for the year ahead, and even practised speaking in front of their peers’ multiple times.
During the workshop students:
- Created an individual transition profile
- Talked about how they felt when starting their new school
- Interviewed a new peer and then introduced their partner to their peers with a structured talk
- Identified what they saw as the opportunities and challenges facing them in HAR
- Worked within small groups to present a structured talk about these opportunities and challenges and suggest the means to embrace and overcome them
- Identified their goals for the coming year in their new school and presented a structured talk to their peers about them
