Year 10 Students Explore University Life at the University of Essex
In July, our entire Year 10 cohort had the exciting opportunity to visit the University of Essex for a University Taster Day.
This day gave students a valuable glimpse into university life, allowing them to explore higher education through a variety of engaging activities. Students participated in interactive workshops and sessions, including:
- Taster workshops in Sports Psychology, Biodiversity, Theatre Studies, and Creative Writing
- Information sessions on degree courses, apprenticeships, and the value of higher education
- A session on managing university finances
- A guided campus tour
- A student panel with a Q&A session
What students said...
The day left a lasting impression on our students, with many finding it both informative and inspiring. Here are just a few of their reflections:
- “I enjoyed everything. The campus tour allowed everyone to experience and see the size of the campus. The 'Why Go to University' session provided ideas about what to study and information about societies. The taster session gave us a chance to communicate and learn skills in theatre.”
- “Everything was useful because the staff members were so kind to give up their time to show us around. Everything was perfectly organised and well-led. I look forward to applying to this great university.”
- “I liked the 'Why Go to University' session as it answered many of my questions about finance, the application process, and course options.”
- “The talk about university life, including the societies and the student’s union, really helped me realise that I could fit in at university. I’m truly thankful for this opportunity.”
- “I enjoyed learning about what university offers and how it can help create job opportunities in the future.”
- “I found the different facilities and how classes operate at university very useful.”
- “What I found most useful today was the tour, as it showed us what actually happens at the university and gave us insight into the experiences of current students.”
- “I found the 'Why University is Important' session and the taster sessions helpful, as they gave us a taste of what lectures are like and an insight into potential courses.”
We extend our thanks to the staff and students at the University of Essex for providing such an enriching and eye-opening experience for our students.
