Pompeii 2020 - Studying Roman Civilization at First-Hand
Our annual trip to Pompeii was once again a great success. Students were given the opportunity not only to experience first hand the civilisation they study, but also the trip was a social learning curve for every single one of them.
Our trip involved visits to Naples, Capri for hiking towards the ancient villas, the picturesque Amalfi Coast and the world famous Pompeii and Herculaneum which were destroyed and buried completely by the volcanic eruption in 79 AD.
Students had the chance to witness the greatness and the masterpieces of Roman civilisation by exploring in-depth through research projects the two well-preserved cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum.
Students concluded that those two cities constitute the missing piece that closes the gap between our world and the Roman world. This highlighed how studying ancient cultures can be the stepping stone for students' engagement in the classroom and in society as citizens.
