"This House Would Abolish Christmas"
In our first full debate of the year, the Rainham Union Debating Society considered the motion ‘This House would abolish Christmas’, presided over by Michael as Chair and Hayden as time-keeper.
After the House voted to define the motion as referring to Christmas as a public bank holiday, Amila and James, speaking for the motion, and Alex and Neda, speaking in opposition, drew on cogent political, economic, religious, moral and social arguments to make their respective cases. The proposition won the day, however, with the house voting in favour of the motion. Mr Phillips is pleased to report that this decision will not be binding in law.
Our debates are open to all. See details of future Rainham Experience events.
Westminster School Platform+ programme
We are delighted to report that four of our Rainham Experience Year 10 students have been accepted on to Westminster School’s prestigious Platform+ programme.
Izzie, Daisy, Reon and Maddie will attend ten Saturday sessions at this world-class school over the calendar year ahead. During this time, they will benefit from an intensive academic programme in their chosen subjects and have access to Westminster’s careers fairs.
We look forward to their making the most of this terrific opportunity.
