Year 11 Discuss the Nature of Knowledge
Quang, Year 11, reports on our recent Harris Experience visit to Harris Academy Chafford Hundred, which included an extended enquiry into the nature of knowledge, led by the The Philosophy Foundation.
In November, we went to Harris Academy Chafford Hundred for a day, which included talks about the Harris Experience, our prospects in the Harris Federation and universities, and a philosophy workshop.
During the first part of the day, we had a talk about Harris Experience, Russell Group universities and Harris Academy Chafford Hundred Sixth Form. We were given a lot of information about sixth forms and the potential benefits of coming to a Harris Sixth Form, such as the support structure, as well as reasons for going to Russell Group universities.
Challenged our minds
After a small break, we were able to talk to some Sixth Form students who were able to inform us of the many aspects of sixth form life, potential challenges and experiences that come with sixth form, and the curriculum too.
After, we had an amazing workshop on philosophy, which really challenged the minds of me and the other students. After that, we had a brief talk about Harris Experience Advanced and revision techniques.
In my personal opinion, I greatly appreciated the discussion with the other Harris Sixth Form students, as they were able to help me understand the new aspects of sixth form and how Harris helped them through the process; particularly, they warned me of the sudden increase in challenge and the requirement of a good support structure, which Harris Academy Chafford Hundred has.
I also loved the philosophy workshop, as I was able to debate with others and question my own perspective of life. Personally, I found the day very interesting and I was able to come out understanding more about sixth form, as well as having a great time with philosophy.
Quang, Year 11
Our students represented the school superbly, with Connor, Emily, Lee, Mark and Kelvin even quoted in the follow-up reading circulated by the session leader. An exceptional outcome for their introduction to the subject!
