Year 10 Look at Different Perceptions of Truth
Neda and Shanti, Year 10 students, report on a series of inspiring seminars to help students apply for top sixth forms.
Harris Academy Rainham have put in place an inspiring 6th form programme, which provides support to any student who wishes to apply for a highly academic sixth form such as Brampton Manor and Harris Westminster.
After school last Thursday, we attended the first of many seminars, delivered by our Principal Mr Stananought, and we found it to be very inspirational.
It challenged our pre-existing thoughts and perceptions and made us think more deeply about the subject matter and the world around us. The seminar was about different perceptions of truth ('truth isn't truth?') and an introduction to philosophy, which was interesting and meaningful.
I really enjoyed that it allowed us to engage in debate about what is right or wrong. For example, we discussed if it was wrong to treat someone badly if they had done a 'bad' thing.
Overall, we took away from the session what our purpose of life is (or at least we are going to start thinking about what we would like our purpose to be before we leave this planet) as well as learning theories like Plato's theory.
Thank you Harris Academy Rainham and Mr Stananought. We look forward to the second seminar next week!
