Student Welfare
The academy has a range of policies and procedures in place that ensure the welfare of all of our students. These policies can be downloaded from the bottom of this page. Several of these policies set out expectations about good behaviour. This means that everyone feels safe and can learn.
Good behaviour includes good learning behaviour around the academy and in lessons and also rules about communication and behaving appropriately towards other students and staff. We look carefully at the appropriate use of ICT, for example, anti-bullying and any learning, medical, emotional or social needs which may contribute to behavioural patterns.
We have a pastoral team who dedicate themselves to fostering good standards of behaviour, maintaining routines for good behaviour and intervening and investigating any incidents where behaviour falls below the standard expected. We also invest in counselling and life coaches as well as a well-designed curriculum to assist pupils to understand and develop appropriate behaviour.
Attendance
Regular attendance is also a vital part of securing student welfare. Students at the academy have an excellent attendance record. In order to best ensure the welfare of students, attendance is checked every morning and afternoon for every student and contact should be made with parents and carers where there is non-attendance. In order to support the academy we request that parents or carers contact the academy by 9am by telephone in the event of absence.
Medical care
Appropriate medical care is provided during normal academy hours by our Health Officer. Many members of staff are trained in first aid.
