Maths
We believe that every pupil is entitled to outstanding teaching in all aspects of the KS3 and KS4 Mathematics curriculum.
Further details of the curriculum can be found in the documents downloadable from the bottom of this page.
The new schemes of work are designed to ensure consistency in teaching with full support for pupils with lower prior attainment and plentiful extension work for the most able pupils.
Every pupil should experience well-differentiated and stimulating activities to engage them, irrespective of prior attainment in mathematics.
The same four core topics are covered every year: number, algebra, shape and statistics. The content of these four key topics are revisited, honed and extended as pupils progress through the school.
At Key Stage 3, we want pupils to have a sound understanding of a range of mathematical concepts enabling students to access the KS4 curriculum. Students are shown early in Year 7 how to use a calculator effectively with problem-solving and reasoning skills developed throughout the year. At Key Stage 4, we want to facilitate a love of learning for mathematics and, where appropriate, provide the necessary support to enable pupils to access further mathematical study in Key Stage 5 and beyond.
The focus of Maths teaching at HAR is to ensure that ALL students develop confidence, have a secure and connected factual knowledge, procedural fluency and conceptual understanding.
