Learning about the Romans at Fishbourne Palace
Our trip to Fishbourne Palace this week taught us a lot about the uniqueness of Roman civilisation in Britain. Students learnt how the Romans designed mosaics and their way of lighting. This enhanced our students’ understanding of antiquity and the curriculum.
They also had the chance to experience making a mosaic, which developed further their appreciation of the skills of Roman craftsmen, who had access to fewer tools than we did.
Students were really interested to learn that there are five mosaics that the team at Fishbourne Palace had excavated, but decided to re-bury as they wanted to stop further damage.
The trip was truly inspiring and deepened our students' pride in their classical studies.
